At its most basic this is a three-ingredient breakfast that is easy to prepare, easy to take on-the-go, and infinitely variable with different mix-in combinations.

—Notes—

  • These quantities reflect my taste. Some people like their oats with more liquid, less liquid, less spice, more nuts, etc. This recipe is extremely flexible and is meant as a template to start from; the quantities and combos are easily tweaked to your preferences.
  • Instead of mixing in nuts, you can add just before eating so they’re crunchier. I generally add them overnight though because otherwise I forget in the morning.
  • If you’re American, you will probably want to double or triple the sweetener. Consider increasing the vanilla first, however, as studies have shown vanilla fools the taste buds into believing food is sweeter.
