The below recipes are delicious as is, but can also be used to create creamy or tangy versions &#8211; essentially creating a different dish with just one or two ingredients. <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60)\">&#8212;Ingredients&#8212;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns ingredients-box has-tertiary-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f56f613f wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column ingredients-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><em>Fast<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-tw-border ingredients-list\">\n<li>1 can of chickpeas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 tbsp store-bought* or <a href=\"https:\/\/ramimarcus.com\/fastorfancy\/marsala-base\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1026\">homemade masala paste<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp cumin seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 sm. red onion (~100g), finely chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp ground coriander<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp ground cumin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 tsp turmeric<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cilantro, for garnish<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tbsp tamarind paste (<em>optional)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column ingredients-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><em>Fancy<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-tw-border ingredients-list\">\n<li>500g cooked chickpeas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 tsp turmeric<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tbsp curry powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp ground coriander<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp chili powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp nigella seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>250g finely chopped onion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 1\/2 tsp grated ginger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 1\/2 tsp grated garlic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>200g tomato, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 tsp garam masala<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 small green chilis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">&#8212;Method&#8212;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;text-transform:uppercase\"><em>Fast Method<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"margin-top:0;margin-right:0;margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);margin-left:0\" class=\"wp-block-list method-list\">\n<li>Heat oil over medium heat, then add cumin seeds, onion, and a pinch of salt to help the onion cook down.  Cook until onions begin to become translucent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the chickpeas, ground coriander, and ground cumin. Cook for 1m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add masala paste and turmeric, then 1 cup of water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.  Simmer for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taste and add more paste, salt, or water if desired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add tamarind paste, if desired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add creaminess, if desired.  (See Notes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garnish with chopped cilantro.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);text-transform:uppercase\"><em>Fancy Method<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make the spice paste: Add curry powder, ground coriander, chili powder, and 4tbsp of water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drain the chickpeas, retain the liquid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat oil over medium heat.  Add nigella seeds and toast until they dance. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the chopped onion and a pinch or two of salt to help them cook down. Stir patiently until the onions start to caramelize. (~10m)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the ginger and garlic.  Cook for 1m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the spice paste and cook for 30s.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the tomatoes and cover.  Cook, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes have completely broken down into a pulp.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add garam masala and chickpeas, stirring on high heat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add whole chilis and about 1c of retained chickpea liquid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover and simmer for 8 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add creaminess, if desired.
