Stir Fry Sauce – Chinese Style

This is a generic stir-fry sauce that uses common Chinese ingredients – you’ll find variations on this sauce in most stir-fries. Add to any stir-fried vegetables or protein to create a simple, fast, tasty dish.

—Ingredients—

Fast

  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 boullion cube dissolved in 1/4c water
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder (optional)

Fast #2

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar or mirin
  • 2 tsp corn starch
  • 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp water

Fancy

  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4c chicken broth (or water)
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing cooking wine
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

—Method—

Fast & Fancy Methods
  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.

—Notes—

  • I like to make a jarful at the beginning of the week, throwing it in to quick evening stir-fries.

—Serving Ideas—

  • Add to stir-fried ingredients. (About 1/4c per serving.) Let sit until starts to darken, then mix for about 30s and serve.
